Review by Jason Houston: I must start off by saying that this is not a CD that I would go out and buy that but I have a ton of respect for the fact that Cannibal Corpse is a Legendary Metal band that has a loyal fan base and that people who are into this band and this type of music will just love this latest release from ther newest effort entitled “Red Before Black”.
My only problem with this entire CD is that the vocals are so hard to understand and that being the case I personally might prefer an album of heavy, brutal, loud, aggressive instrumental music instead. I mean put on a Motorhead or Metallica or even a Slayer album and while those bands might play loud, brutal, aggressive music there’s a bit of melody to what those bands do and you can hear the vocals. But I think maybe with the exception of the loyal Slayer fanbase that Cannibal Corpse is targeting a much different audience than those bands. I even dare say that this is a band that could give the mighty SLAYER a run for their money when it comes to just how heavy, aggressive, brutal their music really is!
While this is not a CD I would go out and buy I’d have to rate this one 80/100 and that because while this may not be my cup of tea. I do have an appreciation for what these guys do and respect the fact that they have a loyal fan base and that they’ve had a pretty lengthy career that tells me there’s more people out there that dig this band so there’s something to be said for that. I personally would like this album a lot more if the vocals were a little more clear to hear/understand. http://cannibalcorpse.net/
My rating: 80/100 (Good in its own genre, recommended for those hooked on it)
